What is Xeomin?

Wrinkles and frown lines are an unfortunate part of aging, but that doesn’t mean our patients have to abandon all hope of looking youthful. Xeomin is an injectable medication that can stop muscle fibers under the skin from contracting, smoothing out wrinkles, including crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles. And often, it costs even less than other options.

Xeomin is the only product on the market that uses X-Tract technology to remove all unnecessary proteins that the body can potentially build resistance to. It contains a “naked” form of the botulinum toxin, which means your body will be able to keep accepting treatments over time. This is because Xeomin was specifically designed to treat people’s individual ailments. In addition, Xeomin can be used to treat people suffering from several other medical disorders.

These include adult blepharospasm (eyelid spasms), chronic sialorrhea (drooling), upper limb spasticity (stiff arms), and cervical dystonia (neck spasms). Xeomin is a liquid prescription medicine that is injected into your affected muscles or glands for long-lasting results. Whether you need a medical issue address, or you’re simply unhappy with signs of aging on your face, Xeomin can provide the help you need. The board-certified plastic surgeons at Renuance Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa can help you find the results you're looking for to improve your overall quality of life.

Benefits of Xeomin

Xeomin has several benefits for patients, the main one being that patients will look younger. Scientific research that looked at 547 patients found that 60 percent of those who had Xeomin injections had a two-point improvement on a wrinkle assessment scale. Here are some of the other notable benefits of Xeomin:

  • Treats Glabellar Lines and Crows Feet: Effective in smoothing out forehead furrows (glabellar lines) and wrinkles around the eyes.
  • Medical Applications: Xeomin can also treat several medical conditions, including cervical dystonia (neck muscle spasms), upper limb spasticity (stiffness), and chronic drooling in both adults and children ages 2-17.
  • Non-Invasive Procedure: Xeomin injections require no incisions, anesthesia, or downtime, with quick appointments typically lasting only 10-20 minutes.
  • Minimal Discomfort: The injections are generally well-tolerated with minimal discomfort.

The Xeomin Procedure

This is a fairly straightforward procedure. It only lasts about twenty minutes.

After the doctor applies a topical numbing cream, they will prepare Xeomin and inject it into your affected muscles. Once your target areas have been treated, you should be able to drive yourself to your next destination, though you may want to take the day off to rest.

Results from Xeomin

Because Xeomin can treat a variety of ailments and issues, results can affect individuals differently. The active ingredient in Xeomin will act on nerve endings in your muscles to keep the muscle fibers from contracting.

By lessening these contractions, your muscles can tighten, easing wrinkles and muscle spasms. Your results may start to show as quickly as 3-4 days after your procedure and may take up to a month to become fully visible.

This treatment is faster than other dermal injectables, but the speed of your results depends on your age and the severity of your condition. After the Xeomin is fully absorbed into your body, you can expect your results to last an average of six months.

Recovery After Xeomin

There is little to no recovery after Xeomin. Patients will be able to drive themselves home and go about their typical day, though they’ll want to take it easy with exercise and physical activity. Some patients do experience some side effects after the injections.

These include dry mouth, muscle weakness, pain at the site of the injection, neck pain, eye issues (such as swelling, blurring, or drooping of the eyelids), and/or feeling tired. Luckily, these side effects should dissipate after a few hours or days. After three to four days, patients will begin to see improvements with their specific needs (such as their forehead looking smoother) with full results coming in at about one week. Your long-lasting results will last up to three months.

Xeomin FAQ

Xeomin can be used to treat a host of cosmetic and medical issues to ease your discomfort and/or help you reach your cosmetic goals. This includes suffering from cervical dystonia, chronic drooling, and upper limb stiffness. Children ages 2-17 who are suffering from upper limb spasticity can also benefit from Xeomin.

Xeomin has been approved by the U.S. FDA based on the results of two U.S. clinical trials. Numerous other trials have been completed. They concluded that Xeomin is both effective and safe to treat your symptoms, although they may be side effects from the toxin depending on the part of your body being treated, the severity of your symptoms, and your age.

Once your topical analgesic wears off, you may be in discomfort from swelling, tenderness, and bruising. You may also feel tired and your muscles may feel weak. You can find relief through prescription pain medication if needed. Make sure you speak to your doctor if you find any symptoms lasting longer than you’ve been advised.

No. Xeomin is injected through a thin needle to your targeted area(s) and should leave no scarring behind. There may be bruising at the site of injection, and there will be some initial swelling, but those will fade and leave no scars behind.

The cost of Temecula Xeomin treatments varies depending on how many shots the patient needs, as well as how frequently they come for a touch-up. With that said, the best way for Temecula patients to get an accurate estimate is to schedule an appointment with our doctors. During this appointment, our doctors can work with the patient one-on-one to devise a plan of care specifically for their needs. After the plan of care is created, we can more easily estimate total costs.

If patients don’t have the full cost of treatment upfront, we partner with three different financing companies to make paying easier. CareCredit, Alphaeon Credit, and Point Loma Credit Union all have payment plans to make Xeomin affordable.

Many Temecula patients are candidates for Xeomin. In particular, it’s an excellent choice for patients who are concerned with forehead wrinkles like frown lines. Because it’s non-invasive, even patients who aren’t healthy enough for surgery may be able to have Xeomin.

However, because Xeomin uses botulinum toxin as a main ingredient, not everyone is a candidate, as some people may be allergic to this bacterium. Patients who want to confirm their candidacy are urged to schedule an appointment with our doctors to learn more.
