At our Temecula area med spa, we often have clients ask about the effectiveness of over-the-counter and beauty-brand cosmetic products. While there’s nothing wrong with using the skincare products available at large retail stores, some of the claims made by cosmetic companies can be misleading.
A recent example of misleading claims involves Génifique, the Lancôme anti-wrinkle cream that’s under scrutiny by the FDA because advertisements have portrayed the product as having medical properties. Medical products that are used in med spas, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and LATISSE®, are approved or cleared by the FDA before they can be used, so you can have greater assurance that they will deliver the expected results.
At a med spa, you also receive treatments from trained professionals. But you want to make sure the spa is under the direction and supervision of a medical doctor. For example, in addition to being the medical director of Renuance™, I am a board-certified plastic surgeon and a member of several professional medical associations, including the Riverside County Medical Association and the Tri-County Surgical Society.
There may be a price difference between OTC products and those available from a med spa, but a med spa gives women and men greater reliability and peace of mind.
