Blepharoplasty Q & A

What is blepharoplasty?

blepharoplastyBlepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, removes extra skin from the upper eyelids and reduces baggy lower eyelids. You can have upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both surgeries at the same time.

Eyelid surgery is often for cosmetic purposes but can also improve vision if the drooping eyelid is blocking eyesight.

What can eyelid surgery treat?

Blepharoplasty at Renuance Cosmetic Surgery Center may be right for you if you don’t have an eye condition, are healthy, and are looking to treat:

  • Sagging skin that covers the natural shape of your upper eyelid
  • Impaired vision from loose skin
  • Puffiness in the eyelids
  • Bags under your eyes
  • Extra skin or wrinkles in the lower eyelid
  • Hollows below the eyes

The team at Renuance Cosmetic Surgery Center provides you with a telephone consultation so you can discuss treatment without having to commit.

It’s also important to note that other factors may affect drooping eyelids, and different procedures may be best in addressing your cosmetic goals, such as a brow lift.

You can also combine eyelid surgery or a brow lift with a facelift to address sagging in the lower or middle part of your face.

How can I prepare for blepharoplasty?

Your Renuance Cosmetic Surgery Center surgeon does an exam of your eyelid area, discusses your cosmetic goals, and answers any financial questions you may have. You can then schedule your surgery.

Renuance Cosmetic Surgery Center provides the most minimally invasive blepharoplasty procedure as possible, but it’s still important to plan for your visit and take proper precautions.

Make sure you have a person to drive you home and stay with you the night after the procedure. Recovery time is normally several days, and you should take time off work and limit difficult daily tasks to give your body time to heal.

At home, be sure to prepare with ice packs or freezer bags for swelling or bruising, gauze pads as you may experience bleeding or oozing, physician recommended eye drops to reduce dryness, and over-the-counter painkillers.

You can use sunglasses while you heal, and you shouldn’t have any issues with your vision. Results can be seen in just one week and last at least 10 years or more.

What happens during eyelid surgery?

Blepharoplasty procedures take place at Renuance Cosmetic Surgery Center’s top-notch facility, which has accreditation from the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAAF).

You can choose to have your blepharoplasty under general anesthesia, and your surgeon and nurse ensure you feel comfortable.

During the surgery, and depending on your needs, your surgeon removes any extra or loose skin around your eyes. This creates smooth, visually pleasing eyelids.

They may fix bulging areas of fat around the eyelids or inject fat to fix any hollowness under your eye. Your surgeon can even move fat from the eyelids to your cheek to give you a youthful look.
