In order to remove unsightly varicose veins, a treatment known as sclerotherapy was developed long ago and has been perfected over the years.
In sclerotherapy, a state-of-the-art foam material is injected with a tiny needle into the vein. This causes controlled inflammation and the vein walls to collapse. The varicose veins gradually dissolve over several weeks and ultimately disappear. Some patients experience a slight to moderate burning sensation immediately after the injection, but this disappears within a few seconds. Bruising around the treated area can result, which eventually disappears.
Unlike laser therapy, sclerotherapy closes the varicose veins under the skin. This makes recurrence in treated areas far less likely. Most patients need a few treatments, done at about six-to-eight-week intervals, to obtain the best results.
