Regardless of how talented you are, how kindly you act, how hard you work, or how much energy you bring to everything you do, people may still make snap judgments about you based on the way you look. Sometimes, it’s subtle bias, like:
- Watching younger colleagues get career opportunities that should have gone to you.
- When friends ask you if you’re tired, or getting enough rest.
- Having people mistake your resting facial expression for one of anger or annoyance.
At Renuance Cosmetic Surgery Center, Riverside County patients describe these situations to us all of the time. In many cases, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) resolves the aesthetic cause of these problems.
With the surgery, our board-certified surgeons address hanging skin, bulging fat, and hollows beneath the eyes. Beyond an improvement in appearance, blepharoplasty eliminates excess skin that can obscure your vision or make it hard to apply makeup. As a result of the procedure, patients tell us that they are more comfortable, can see more clearly, and feel more confident than they have in years.
Exploring Blepharoplasty with Renuance
Renuance Cosmetic Surgery Center, conveniently located in Riverside County, offers a 5000+square-foot luxury facility where patients receive expert treatment. Blepharoplasty procedures take place on-site in our AAAASF-certified surgical suite. This accreditation demonstrates our high commitment to patient comfort and safety.
Discretion is also very important to us and to those in our care. We provide private entrances and a complete recovery suite. In addition, we begin the patient relationship with a telephone consultation so that those considering treatment can explore the process without commitment.
The next step is an in-office consultation. During your visit, your Renuance surgeon will examine your eyelid area and discuss the features that you would like to change with blepharoplasty. These conditions may either develop as a result of genetics or over time due to aging. Most patients will want to target one or all of the following:
- Excess skin in the upper eyelids.
- Bulging fat in the lower eyelids.
- Deep tear troughs below the lower eyelids, which may also pull down the cheeks.
As part of your visit, you’ll also have a chance to ask all of your questions, discuss financial considerations, and, when you are ready, schedule your surgery.
Your Options with Blepharoplasty
As with all of the procedures that Renuance surgeons conduct for Riverside County patients, we will tailor your blepharoplasty to your individual needs. Here are some of the common considerations that patients review during their consultation.
Do you need a blepharoplasty?
There are cases in which a different surgery will meet your goals more effectively. For example, the reason that features of your eyes appear to droop may be because your eyebrows are hanging below the orbital bone. In this situation, your surgeon may recommend a brow lift instead of or along with a blepharoplasty.
Does a blepharoplasty include both sets of eyelids?
Your surgeon can perform blepharoplasty on your upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Upper eyelid surgery is more common because it is a relatively simple procedure to remove excess skin.
Will a facelift take care of eyelid-related concerns?
A facelift does not directly address excess skin, bulging, and hollowing around the eyes. Renuance surgeons often combine blepharoplasty with a facelift to provide patients with comprehensive rejuvenation. You and your doctor can discuss this option in your consultation.
Your Experience with Blepharoplasty
On the day of your procedure, we’ll welcome you back to Renuance and help you get prepared for surgery. Most Riverside County patients opt to have blepharoplasty under general anesthesia. Your surgeon and nurse will talk with you beforehand to answer any other questions you have and to ensure you are comfortable.
During the blepharoplasty, your surgeon may:
- Remove loose skin to create smooth, taut eyelids.
- Revise bulging areas of fat.
- Inject fat around the lower eyelids to reduce hollowing.
- Reposition fat within the cheek to create a more youthful facial transition.
Patients tend to recover quickly from blepharoplasty surgery. You can expect some bruising for about one week. As you heal, sunglasses can help hide signs of the procedure, and the surgery should not affect your vision at all. By the end of the week, your eyes should look younger, more alert, and more rested.
- How Long Will Blepharoplasty Results Last?
It’s very rare for our Riverside County patients to require a second blepharoplasty surgery. Many of our patients achieve results that last at least 10 years or more. Some find their results last a lifetime!
In the event that your eyelids begin drooping again years after your surgery, a secondary blepharoplasty isn’t always indicated. Oftentimes, the best thing to do re-achieve results from your blepharoplasty procedure is to have a brow lift.
- How Can Blepharoplasty Improve My Vision Field?
Some Riverside County blepharoplasty patients have upper eyelids that sag or droop below the eyelashes so much that they obstruct their fields of vision. In these cases, blepharoplasty can remove the excess, drooping skin and improve your visual field.
It’s important to note, though, that blepharoplasty is performed on the skin surrounding your eyes only. It’s not an eye surgery, which is instead performed by an ophthalmologist.
