Do you have a small amount of excess fat around your midsection that does not respond well to diet and exercise? People who have this issue often undergo a tummy tuck, but if your needs aren’t very extensive, a partial tummy tuck may be exactly what you need. Also known as a mini tummy tuck, the partial tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that can be used to deal with minor fat deposits in the abdominal area.

Ideal Partial Tummy Tuck Candidates

Those who have a small amount of abdominal skin that needs to be removed and do not have an abdominal muscle wall that is significantly protruding, can be considered a good candidate for this type of surgery. Loose skin, muscle laxity, and stretch marks limited to the lower abdomen can be fixed with a partial tummy tuck.

You should also be in good general health and be free of any underlying health concerns. During a consultation with your surgeon, you will be asked to provide your medical history. After a thorough analysis, your doctor will determine if you will make a good candidate.

It is to be noted that if you have a significant amount of excess fat and skin in both upper and lower abdomen, a partial tummy tuck will not yield the desired results. You may need to undergo the traditional tummy tuck method.

What Does the Procedure Entail?

Since the procedure is less extensive than the traditional tummy tuck surgery, it can be performed under local anesthesia and mild sedation. In some occasions, general anesthesia is used. The incision is usually so small that this procedure is often referred to as the scarless tummy tuck.

The navel also does not need to be repositioned in this case since the amount of tissues removed is significantly less than a full tummy tuck. In some cases, liposuction may be used for enhanced contours. The incision is usually made between the hip bones and the focus of the treatment is below the navel.

After the excess fat is removed and the muscles tightened, the skin is stretched and pulled downward, removing any excess skin in the process and stitching up the remaining skin. A tube to drain out fluids may be attached at that point.

The procedure is usually performed as an outpatient treatment and you will be able to leave the office soon after it is completed.

What to Expect During the Recovery Process

After undergoing the partial tummy tuck, you should avoid performing strenuous activities for about one to two weeks. The incisions may take about two weeks to heal. If you are a smoker, you should also avoid smoking because it can hinder the healing process and cause complications.

The Partial Tummy Tuck Advantage

• The post-surgical marks are minor and strategically hidden.
• It can effectively remove a small amount of excess skin and tighten the abdominal area.
• The procedure is less invasive and and much faster than the traditional tummy tuck.
• It can improve the contours of your body for the beautiful look you desire.

The partial tummy tuck can help you flaunt your bikini without worrying about the pooch that makes your otherwise flawless body appear slightly disproportionate.
